5 women charged with affray for fighting near Paya Lebar MRT Station

SINGAPORE: Five women were charged in court on Thursday (Aug 15) with affray for fighting with one another near Paya Lebar MRT Station.
The court heard that the incident involving the five Indonesians – Sriani, 46, Maesaroh, 35, Sulastri, 44, Nita Widia Rahayu, 34, and Siti Rukayah Kusni, 47 – took place on the afternoon of May 19, a Sunday, at 15 Paya Lebar Road.
According to a police statement, Siti, Sulastri and Nita had a previous dispute with Sriani.
Maesaroh purportedly joined in to side with Sriani, and a fight broke out between the two groups.
A three-minute video clip posted on Facebook shows the group of women shouting and wrangling with one another as onlookers watched.
According to charge sheets, Sriani exchanged blows with Sulastri and Siti, while Maesaroh fought with Nita.
Siti allegedly exchanged blows with Sulastri as well.
The police were alerted to the fight at about 2.55pm and arrested four of them that same day.
The fifth, Siti, was identified and arrested about a week later.
In court, the women stood apart from one another and listened to proceedings with grim faces.
Sriani, Sulastri and Siti indicated that they would plead guilty and were given dates to do so later this month.
Nita and Maesaroh said they intended to plead guilty but wanted to hire lawyers. They will return to court for further mentions of their cases on Aug 26.
The penalty for affray is a jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to S$$5,000, or both.
